Premier League new boys Brighton will be thrown in at the deep end when they host Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Saturday teatime.
The Seagulls are favourites to return to the Championship but Chris Hughton will be hoping his side can upset the odds and avoid the trap door in their debut Premier League season.
At the other end of the spectrum Manchester City are favourites for the title. Pep Guardiola, in his second summer, has spent big with a complete overhaul! Bernardo Silva, Ederson, Kyle Walker, Danilo and Benjamin Mendy have all come at a price.
And with the spending spree likely to continue in the coming weeks will anybody stop City this season?
Questions remain in their defence, but one thing is for sure Ederson can’t have a worse debut season than Claudio Bravo, or can he? Kompany staying fit will be a huge bonus for Guardiola and City’s title hopes.
Gabriel Jesus and Aguero dazzled in the few games they played alongside each other last season! But questions remain over what system Pep will play throughout the season. New boy Bernardo Silva will provide attacking flair and an array of passing from the middle of the park but looks set to miss the game at the Amex having been allowed more time off during preseason.
Brighton have been busy too with ten signings and smashing their transfer record multiple times! The Seagulls captured £10m PSV midfielder Davy Propper and have agreed a £16m deal for Colombian international winger Jose Izquierdo. But will it be enough to save them from relegation?
Chris Hughton is renowned for his safety-first approach and Brighton could well play with all 11 men behind the ball on Saturday. But with City’s class and countless attacking options surely there’ll only be one outcome?
If City click then it could be a long night for Brighton. I fancy Man City -2 handicap at 5/2.
