Premier League champions Chelsea will start their title defence at home to Burnley on Saturday.
Conte’s side head into the new Premier League season on the back of a Community Shield defeat to rivals Arsenal and will be hoping to bag all three points when they take on Sean Dyche’s combative Clarets at the Bridge.
Preseason has been far from perfect for the champions with Hazard picking up a serious injury, the ongoing Costa saga, missing out on Lukaku, Matic leaving for United and Conte becoming increasingly angry at a lack of transfer activity.
There’s no doubt about it Chelsea head into the new season weaker than the last. That’s despite signing Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata – three solid signings. But with European football to juggle Chelsea need more bodies and they’re running out of time.
They could opt for youth, but instead they seem more intent on sending their starlets out on loan. Tammy Abraham, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Kurt Zouma and Izzy Brown have all been loaned out to fellow Premier League teams, surely a couple of them could do a job at Chelsea?
Burnley did remarkably well to avoid relegation last season and will receive the same plaudits if they repeat that this campaign. But they head into their 2017/18 opening game having sold two key players – Andre Gray and Michael Keane – who have yet to be replaced.
That said Dyche has brought in bags of Premier League experience in Jon Walters, Phil bardsley and Jack Cork, with all three set to start at the Bridge.
The Clarets struggled on the road last season picking up just 7 points from a possible 57 and suffered a 3-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge last August. The Blues to win by the same scoreline on Saturday is 7/1.
Chelsea have claimed more points (54) on the opening day of the season than any other side in the competition’s history, Burnley on the other hand have lost all three of their past openers.
Chelsea half time full time is 5/6 with Bet365.
