Like Manchester United Chelsea return to the Champions League after a year away and kick start their campaign at Stamford Bridge against Azerbaijani champions Qarabag on Tuesday.
Antonio Conte got his hands on the Champions League trophy over 20 years ago as a player but is yet to win the title as a manager. The Blues are 18/1 to win the tournament this season after being handed a relatively tough draw. Roma and Atletico Madrid are the other sides to make up the group, and all three will fancy their chances of winning the group.
After losing their opening game of the season Chelsea have won three games on the bounce and head into their clash with Qarabag in good form. Summer signing Álvaro Morata has hit the ground running netting three goals already and will be hoping for more success in front of goal in the Champions League. The Spanish striker is 3/1 to open the scoring.
Not much is known of Chelsea’s opponents who are making their debut in the Champions League group stages, but they did beat FC Copenhagen in the play-off.
Eden Hazard could return to the starting XI after recovering from injury. The Belgium midfielder featured from the bench on Saturday during Chelsea’s 2-1 win at Leicester and is in line to make his first start of the season for the Blues. Summer signings Davide Zappacosta and Danny Drinkwater could also feature.
As for the visitors they have experienced midfielder Michel available for the trip.
In reality it should be a comfortable night for Chelsea. The Azerbaijani champions will probably sit 11 men behind the ball and prove difficult to break down. But once Chelsea find a way through the floodgates could open. With that in mind I fancy Chelsea to win and over 2.5 goals at 4/7.
