After a two season absence Champions League football returns to Anfield on Wednesday when Liverpool host Sevilla in their opening group game.
Klopp’s side will be seeking revenge after losing to the La Liga side in the 2016 Europa League final.
Joined by Spartak Moscow and Maribor both Liverpool and Sevilla will be confident of finishing top of Group E. The Reds avoided a potential group of death and will be hopeful of making the latter stages of the competition.
Liverpool head into the game after being dismantled by Premier League title favourites Manchester City and will be hoping to get back to winning ways. But Sevilla, who are a team with exceptional European pedigree, will pose a huge challenge and Liverpool will have to be at their very best if they’re to start their Champions League campaign with a win.
The La Liga outfit are unbeaten in the league and will be looking to pile more misery on the Reds. Both Ever Banega and Luis Muriel were rested for the weekend win over Eibar but are set to return on Wednesday.
Klopp’s side have won all three of their competitive games at Anfield this season, but the Reds have fundamental problems in defence and Sevilla’s experienced attack could cause serious damage. At the other end of the pitch, though, Liverpool have been red hot.
Firmino, Mane and Salah have been unplayable at times and the prospect of Coutinho returning to the side adds another exciting dimension to Liverpool’s attack. I fancy Mane to repay the fans for his dismissal at the weekend by getting on the scoresheet against Sevilla. He’s 11/10 to sore anytime.
Sevilla will head to Anfield with an intention to win the match, which should result in an end to end game and hopefully goals. Taking into account Liverpool’s excellent home record but dodgy defence I fancy Liverpool win and both teams to score at 2/1.
