The UEFA Super Cup takes place on Tuesday night between the winners of the Champions League, Real Madrid, and the winners of the Europa League, Manchester United. Based on previous games, this is usually a step above from the pre-season action we have seen, but not quite played at the full pace you would expect if these two met in a European game.
Manchester United have been impressive in pre-season, their only loss came against Barcelona, and even in that game they performed with credit to lose 1-0.
They enjoyed a comfortable victory over their near rivals Manchester City and have also beated Real Madrid on penalties, after a draw in 90 minutes.
Real Madrid have another week to go until they start life in La Liga, so at this stage you would expect Manchester United to be in a slightly better position, which I think they are. United look raring to go and Jose Mourinho will be determined to challenge for the title this season, after a summer of moulding the squad into just what he wants.
That includes bringing in Romelu Lukaku, who will be desperate to help his team land their first piece of silverware on Tuesday night.
One player who has been very influential during pre-season has been Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who looks like he could really flourish this season and aid United’s title push. United fans can get ready to see plenty of him with the ball, hopefully creating chances for Lukaku to finish.
As for Madrid, they have doubts over both Christiano Ronaldo, who has missed the entire pre-season and Gareth Bale, who has picked up another injury it seems.
Therefore, Manchester United look in a much better position going into this game and they have a great chance of picking up the first piece of European silverware this season.
Take the 11/4 on the United win with Bet365.
